The 2012/2013 academic year is the first “tatsächlich” sabbatical year since 1991-1992 when Prof. Gastaldo was awarded a Forschungspreis from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. This opportunity to live abroad, in combination with field work scheduled in connection with current and past research-grant funds from the National Science Foundation, Petroleum Research Fund, and other agencies has taken him to various familiar and remote sites around the globe.
