Ronald Brown

(December 2, 1912 – November 30, 1987)

Brown was the secretary of the Board of Urban Renewal Authority from 1964 until 1976. He grew up in Waterville and lived on 117 Silver Street as a child. As he got older he moved out of town, but continued to own summer property in Waterville. Brown attended Hebron Academy, located in Hebron, Maine, for high school and received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College.

Brown has a long list of accomplishments. He was a member on the advisory board of Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, director of the Waterville Area Chamber of Commerce, member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Urban Renewal, member of the Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Post in Waterville, vice chairman of the Maine Publicity Bureau, director of Waterville Industrial Development Corp., one of the founders of Community Chest affairs, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Brown also received the Man of the Year award in 1966 and 1967 from the Waterville Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he owned and operated the H.R. Dunham Co. until he retired in 1970. H.R. Dunham Co. was a popular town store that sold items such as post cards and t-shirts.
