Robert E L Strider (b.1917)  served as Colby 17th President. His term included great expansion of the physical campus as well as significant student unrest during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Read a brief biography here.

PRESIDENT STRIDER AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

Strider was a significant facilitator for Special Collections gifts during his presidency, working in consultation with Curator Richard Cary. He intervened diplomatically during the clash of philosophies and personalities between Cary and benefactor James Augustine Healy in the 1960s. He also contributed articles to the Colby Library Quarterly.
