The Colby Library Associates

Founded in 1935, the Colby Library Associates were a long-standing, vital force in the acquisition of Colby’s rare and unique collections that became Special Collections.

CLQ back matter v1n1 - CLA
Text inside back cover of the Colby Library Quarterly, 1943. Pottle and Weber founded the CLA in 1935. Rush was the college librarian and CLA secretary to 1945.

Student scholarship: Read a brief history of the Colby Library Associates written by Meghan Kelly, Class of 2017, 2013-2014 Presidential Scholar.

THE COLBY LIBRARY ASSOCIATES AS DONORS

The CLA were involved in many of the acquisitions highlighted on this site, either directly or behind the scenes. Personal relationships within the CLA membership played a large part in building and promoting the collections.
