The Cosmopolitan Club image portrays Springfield as an international training site rather than merely a local college community. For Song, this environment linked physical education with YMCA networks, overseas students, and future service in China.
After graduating from Colby in 1921, Song Chin Foh continued his education at Springfield YMCA College, where he studied from 1921 to 1923. If Colby had placed him within religious and athletic networks, Springfield gave him more specialized training in physical education. This stage mattered because it helped turn campus participation into professional preparation.
Springfield was one of the most important centers for the spread of modern physical education through the YMCA and missionary networks. Song’s years there connect directly to his later work in China, where he returned to school athletics, physical education, and eventually Olympic-related activity. In this sense, Springfield was not an interruption between Colby and China. It was the place where his future role became more clearly defined.
