Exhibit Overview

Song Chin Foh / 宋君复 ‘1921

A Song-centered exhibit tracing missionary education, U.S. study, YMCA networks, and modern physical education in China.

Song Chin Foh / 宋君复 ‘1921

Song Chin Foh (Chinese name: 宋君复), or Carl Song, was a Colby graduate whose life connected Wayland Academy in Hangzhou, study in the United States, and the development of modern physical education in China. After studying at Colby College and Springfield College, he returned to China and contributed to the development of school athletics, physical education, and Olympic work. This exhibit follows those connections through photographs and archival documents. It centers on the links among Song, Colby, and the making of modern Chinese sport.
