Final Exam Week:

  • ACS Study Guide: On Reserve at the Science Library!
  • Equation sheet for the final exam is here: EquationSheet-FinalExam-CH142. Note that the ACS dictates what is provided with their exam, and we will give you the same equations for the supplement short answer section as well.
  • The two-hour final exam consists of the ACS second-term general chemistry exam (mandatory) and our own section with short answer/problems (optional). You will have up to 55 minutes to complete the ACS exam (40 multiple-choice questions). You will have the rest of the time to complete our section, if you choose to.
  • Special office hours during finals week: Prof. Millard: Mon-Fri at 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday at 4:00-5:00; Prof. McKinney: Mon 4-5:30, Tues 2:30-3:45, Thurs 3-4, Fri 3:00-4:00.
  • Question and Answer session: Friday 4:00 – 5:30 in Keyes 105.

Week 12:

  • Exam on Tuesday covers Chapters 19 and 20.
  • Question and Answer session on Monday night, 7-8. Please bring questions about the sample exam and/or assigned problems!
  • Special office hours this week: Prof. Millard- Sunday at 3:00-4:00; Monday at 11:00-12:00, and Tuesday at 2:30-3:30; Prof. McKinney- Monday at 3:00-5:00 and Tuesday at 11:00-12:00.

  • This week we are discussing acids and bases, which play a central role in many systems, including the human body!

Week 3:

  • This week we are discussing factors that affect reaction rates, learning how we can determine rate laws from experimental data and then use the rate law to make predictions about concentrations over time.
  • Your second Mastering Chemistry assignment is due on Wednesday the 20th. Please do the follow-up assignment if prompted; this is required.

Week 2:

  • We finished up our discussions of equilibrium (for now!) after learning how to solve for equilibrium constants and equilibrium concentrations. We saw some great examples of Le Chatelier’s Principle at work with some excellent color-changing and exciting, messy reactions.
  • We began a new topic, that of reaction rates!

Week 1:

  • We started the course by throwing Kisses around in Keyes 105 to illustrate dynamic equilibrium!
  • We will continue working towards understanding whether reactions are “product-favored” or “reactant-favored” in the coming lectures. Stay tuned!
  • Your first Mastering Chemistry assignment is due on Wednesday the 13th.
