Milkweed Farm
“We can’t just depend on all of our food coming from California or Mexico.”
Milkweed Farm is a 10-acre, community-supported farm established in Brunswick, Maine. Owner Lucretia Woodruff came to Maine with the intention of starting a CSA share where members of the surrounding farming community pay to receive a portion of the harvested crop as well as volunteer their time to contribute to the productivity and fellowship of the farm as a whole. The agricultural practices of Milkweed demonstrate a commitment to sustainable methods of local, intensive farming as well as to self-sustainability overall. Focusing on Lucretia Woodruff, Muriel Garner, a new mother who has lived on the farm for five years, and the members of the CSA share, the documentary hopes to establish the relevance and beauty regional, participatory forms of agricultural engagement have in today’s world of changing climates.
