Lauren Cohen Fisher, Advisor
Lauren Cohen Fisher is thrilled to be Colby’s Hillel advisor as well as one of the faculty members of the Jewish Studies Department, where she teaches classes about Israel and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Lauren joins Colby after years at Hillel International’s Center for Jewish and Israel Education. Lauren received her BA in Government and Creative Writing from Colby and her MA in Security/Diplomacy Studies from Tel Aviv University. She is over the moon to be back on Mayflower Hill. When not singing niggunim (Jewish wordless tunes) to herself as she lesson plans, Lauren can be found hiking, gathering community for Shabbat dinners, or mailing handwritten letters.
Becca Hoffman ’27, President
Becca Hoffman is a sophomore philosophy major hailing from the great city of Columbus, Ohio. Outside of Hillel, she is the program director at Colby’s radio station WMHB 89.7FM, cohosts the weekly radio show “Midweek Trip” with her fellow Hillel board member, Mollie Block, and teaches at the Beth Israel Hebrew school. When she isn’t in the Hillel room, you can probably find her hammocking in the arb, hiking in Acadia, or snowboarding at Sugarloaf. Becoming a member of Hillel and the greater Waterville jewish community has been Becca’s absolute favorite part of college! She can’t wait for another great year of programming and is especially excited to welcome all of the freshie hillelkim.ot to Colby!
Asher Albert ’27, President
Asher Albert is a sophomore from Columbia, MD, majoring in biology with the neuroscience concentration. When he’s not living in the Hillel room, Asher spends his time hiking, refereeing, volunteering with unified sports, and watching just about every sport in existence. The many things he loves about Colby Hillel include hanging around for hours at Shabbat dinners, having the Hillel room as a second home, and experiencing the incredible sense of community that makes Colby Hillel so special. In the upcoming year, Asher is so excited to connect with old and new Hillel members as well as the broader Maine Jewish community, to do dishes while someone else helps him cook Shabbat dinner, and to take part in the many types of events the Colby Hillel has to offer—from first-year events to holiday programming.
