Colby Hillel Programming
Hillel hosts a wide range of programming each semester designed to connect you with other Jewish students and the local Jewish community in Waterville. From cooking workshops, to apple picking excursions, bagel brunches, to the sukkah building brigade, there is always something interesting to get involved in. To learn more about Jewish life on the Hill, please email our Hillel advisor, Lauren Cohen Fisher, at [email protected].
High Holiday Observances
Colby Hillel celebrates the High Holidays with Beth Israel Congregation, Waterville’s synagogue. Here is a preliminary schedule of services, which are open and welcoming to all. More information, including a form that will allow you to sign up for a community meal on Erev Rosh Hashanah, and to request rides to and from the synagogue, will be available later this summer.
Weekly Shabbat Dinners
The cornerstone of Colby Hillel! Each week Hillel students take turns cooking a homemade meal in our kosher kitchen, and we invite both students and faculty to welcome in Shabbat together. We look forward to hitting pause every week to observe Shabbat and spend time together in community. An email with information about Shabbat is sent out each Friday, so ask your current Hillel president to subscribe you to the Hillel list and check your email!
Thai and Torah — Jewish Learning Series
We meet monthly over a meal (usually Thai food!) to study Jewish text on a topic of our choosing. Past topics have included, but are not limited to, Jewish perspectives food justice, histories of different Jewish movements in American, Jewish movies, and introductions to various Jewish thinkers. The topics are always diverse, relevant and fodder for interesting discussion.
Yom Hashoah Remembrances:
To commemorate Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remeberance Day, Bronya Lechtman ’20, collected stories from students, faculty, and staff about how the Holocaust touched their families. You can read this moving collection of stories by clicking the link below.
