Accomodation

You will be staying at Mufasa Backpackers Lodge during your internship. Depending on the housing option you choose, prices will range from $8-42/night. Mufasa is located in Area 3, which is incredibly close to great stores, internet cafes, and restaurants.

Mufasa Lodge, Area 3, Lilongwe

Mufasa has 24-hour electricity (unless there’s a blackout), 24-hour guard service, beds with mosquito nets, included breakfast, access to a full kitchen, internet access (wireless or you can use one of their desktops), a restaurant and bar, hot showers, and access to a safe for valuables.

Interns will have access to clean drinking water at all times. The house is located in the middle of the shopping section of Area 3 so there is plenty of access to western-style grocery stores. Additionally, the house is less than five minutes from a local vegetable market and about 20 minutes from a much larger market with meats, veggies, car parts, and beautiful fabrics as well as the bus station.

A golf course is located just down the road from Mufasa where interns may run in the morning if they wish. Appropriate dress (shirt and loose pants or shorts for both men and women) is required.

There are a number of options for communication while in Malawi. There are a few methods of gaining internet access, as described above. Interns can use international calling cards while in malawi, although they should keep in mind that it is much cheaper to receive calls than to send them. There is almost universal cell coverage in Malawi, so interns may purchase a cheap cell phone upon arrival or use their own and pay international fees.
