Arthur G. Robinson ‘1906

Retirement, Interest, and Work in China (1950-1960s)

Robinson’s retirement was less a stepping back than a turning inward. From his home in Wellesley, he spent his final decades curating the china he had known, surrounded by scrolls, rare books, coins, and Buddhist artifacts gathered over fourteen years in Tianjin. He wrote, collected, and corresponded with old colleagues, working to preserve a record of pre-1949 missionary and YMCA life.
