Our Project
Disturbia Days
\’Disturbia Days\’ are quarter-annual events that will take over Appleton Street and challenge Waterville\’s prioritization and dependence on personal-use automobiles. Examples include:
Appleton Street Project
Disturbia Days will be important events for garnering support for our larger Appleton Street Project, which proposes to convert a section of Appleton Street solely for pedestrian use. This area of Appleton Street is an ideal location to connect pedestrians to Main Street businesses, the Waterville Public Library, the Chase Forum, and the Concourse.
A space for people
Disturbia Days and the Appleton Street Project will take place in an ideal location that connects pedestrians to a variety of places in Downtown Waterville including the Waterville Public Library, Main Street business, the Concourse, and the Chase Forum.
The converted street can function as a safe space for pedestrian use and a greater space for community events!
Goals
- Improve walkability in Waterville
- Connect pedestrians to resources like the Waterville Public Library, Main Street businesses, the Concourse, and community spaces such as the Chase Forum Room
- Improve safety for children and individuals with limited mobility
- Change the mindset from drive first to walk first
Community Input
Working with community members in the Chase Forum during the Waterville Community Design event, we were able to identify a need for improved pedestrian safety in downtown Waterville, especially for children and those with limited mobility. We also were able to gain countless suggestions for revolutionary creative programming that rethinks downtown away from cars.
