Wilderness Ventures at Colby!

Wilderness Ventures is coming to campus. Go outside this summer and get paid to do it! Blurb below.

Hike the Spanish Pyrenees, ice climb Alaskan glaciers or sea kayak the Puget Sound—all while helping fantastic groups of teenagers become better leaders, communicators and young adults. Wilderness Ventures runs summer programs that focus on multi-activity backcountry travel. Students (ages 12–19) are able to develop leadership, communication and team building skills while experiencing our natural world. Doubling as teacher, facilitator and mentor, Trip Leaders introduce small groups to the merits of living simply while participating in backpacking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, sailing, fly fishing, biking, mountaineering and service project expeditions in beautiful places across the U.S., and as far away as Australia and New Zealand, Africa, Belize, Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands, Peru, Europe and Thailand.
Responsibilities include teaching outdoor skills, minimum-impact camping, environmental and cultural awareness, outdoor education, and natural and cultural history. Applicants should have experience and an interest in the outdoors, but it is even more important to value working with teenagers. If your goal is to climb the Grand Teton, this is not the job for you. Your goal should be helping teenagers get up the Grand Teton, and helping them to learn about themselves and others at the same time. All applicants must be at least 21 and have valid CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certifications. A nice wage and all trip expenses are provided. Training for all staff begins in early June in Salt Lake City, Utah. An application can be downloaded online; internships are also available.
