The Growth of Whiting

“I get to watch kids become the person they’re going to be.”

Whiting Farm has been a community staple in Auburn, Maine, since 1937. In 2015 Elmer Whiting sold the farm to The John H. Murphy Foundation to be both a farm and a space for people with developmental disabilities to learn life and job skills. Since then, under the direction of Kim Finnerty, Whiting Farm has lived up to its historic roots and flourished as a community farm. One of the uses of the farm is to teach a life skills course for students with severe autism, giving them ample space and opportunities to learn how to be productive members of their homes.
