This documentary focuses on Kirsten Lie-Nielsen, a homestead farmer and writer who lives on a revitalized two-hundred year old farm in Liberty, ME. Hostile Valley Farm utilizes old farming techniques and new, Kirsten uses a flock of geese for weed and crop control, has rebuilt a barn that was previously abandoned to house flocks of chicken, geese, and goats, and plans on cultivating Maine medicinal plant crops in the future. Modern Homesteading: Hostile Valley Living explores the incentives and challenges of modern homestead farming from Kirsten’s own experiences.
