I teach Chinese language and literature in the East Asian Studies Department. My research centers on traditional fiction and drama. 
I am particularly interested in how stories about historical and legendary figures evolve over time and between genres. The picture on the left shows me in the Yu Garden in Shanghai. In the Spring 2026 semester, I will be teaching CN 126 “Elementary Chinese II” and EA 252 “Hell on Earth? Chinese Writers on 20th Century Chinese Society”
