In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

The Resident Fatwa Committee of AMJA has received several questions concerning the issue of cremating bodies of those who have died as a result of Covid-19/Coronavirus. After deliberation and consultation, the Committee issued the following fatwa:

There is no disagreement among Muslims concerning the default ruling in this matter; in Islam, the cremation of corpses is considered mutilation and is thus prohibited.… Read the rest

Question:

Knowing that a stay-at-home order has been imposed in most U.S. states for two weeks, with the possibility of an unknown extension, is it permissible for us to buy food, cleaning products, and essential medical supplies in bulk, that will last a month or more, for the family, while knowing that such bulk purchases are in excess of daily need and reduce the market inventory (in some stores depleting it completely), which prevents others from purchasing what they need?… Read the rest
