When Chester Wood was leaving Yachow, the local church members and students appreciated his long-lasting service in China and his contribution to the renovation of Christianity in Yachow. The following item is a banner the locals made as a gift for him. The words deliberately showed their gratitude and admire of the traveller from the other side of the earth, and his faithfulness in evangelism.

Undaunted by dangers and obstacles, crossing mountains and seas, traveling thousands of miles, he left behind his father and mother, his brothers and sisters, and his relatives and friends. Willingly he came to China to preach and spread the Way of Heaven. By setting an example through his own conduct and moving others with love, he was diligent and frugal, sacrificing himself for the benefit of others. He donated money to relieve the poor and offered his strength to assist the elderly and the weak. Even while ill, he continued to travel and proclaim the Gospel, never slacking nor neglecting his mission. Many who heard him repented, and not a few came to believe and return to the Lord.
Such was the entirety of the pastor’s spirit—his zeal, his love, his diligence, and his prudence in spreading the faith—how could one not sigh with admiration and give thanks?
