When we look at our society today, the main question we have is, “What will our society look like in the future?” When we look at the technology that scientists are creating we see that there are many advancements that are bound to come to our
world. We can see these changes in human society through bionic enhancements. Bionic enhancements are enhancements that first appeared during the industrial revolution in Britain and America in the 19th century. Nowadays bionic enhancements can look from anything from prosthetics to microchips implanted inside the human body to act like your keys, credit card, and other items you use daily. But there are many other types of biotechnology that can affect our lives in other ways like gene editing, and drugs. These enhancements and innovations in biotechnology affect the human race in many different ways.
Biotechnology will alter the way humans interact and function within our environment moving forward. In my opinion, there can be many benefits to these new innovations. Life can become simpler and these enhancements can make people higher functioning. Although, there are many ethical questions that arise when looking at the increase of biotechnology in our daily lives.
One ethical idea that could be raised is the cost of this new technology. When new biotechnology is created it can generally be so expensive that only the rich would be able to afford it. Which makes me question whether that is fair to society. If the rich are able to get their hands on brand new technology that could make their lives easier, shouldn’t everyone be allowed to use this technology?
Biotechnology enhancements will redefine what it means to be human. This would require us to discuss the ethics behind this new technology, and what rules should be put in place to make sure that the nature around us is still able to survive. The question really is, could this biotechnology damage nature to a point of no return.
In our world today with climate change and pollution we are already seeing the damage humans can do to nature. We have already polluted so much of our natural resources that it is becoming very hard to recover from it. This is us being shown how human expansion and the increase in technology has had a negative effect on the environment around us.
I personally believe that as new biotechnology is created, rules should be put in place to a certain extent. If we were to not have rules humans would almost become superhumans. Yes, life could become simpler but there is a point in which we have to question with all this technology if our lives are almost becoming synthetic and not real. We have to question whether we should allow people to have access to all new biotechnology that scientists create. Scientists may have to keep some creations away from public use, to keep our world in a somewhat natural state.
All in all, I think only time will tell how biotechnology will affect humans in the long run. When the time comes rules should be set in place regarding the use of this new technology to make sure that we keep our nature intact and preserve wildlife so that our ecosystem can still thrive.
