Between the 16th and 18th centuries, many new ideas and inventions were developed, however, it was not until the 20th century that the term “Scientific Revolution” was introduced. This new type of revolution changed the way in which people viewed the world. There were many new additions to the fields of Mathematics and Astronomy. Despite these new ideas being formulated, many individuals rejected the ideas brought upon by the Scientific Revolution since it contradicted many aspects of theology. Further development and growth of these ideas were needed in order for them to be accepted. Although the Scientific Revolution was somewhat controversial at the time, its contributions to society as a whole were substantial to the development of many key inventions.
Prior to the Scientific Revolution, the field science as whole was quite undeveloped. Following the Scientific Revolution, many new ways of looking at the topic were established. The first new method was collaboration between individuals within the field. Scientists began working together with one another and built off each other’s ideas. Not only did this allow for the creation of new ideas, but it improved many current theories and ideas as well. Many new inventions during the Scientific Revolution allowed for the advancement of society as a whole. For instance, Galileo Galilei designed the telescope. With the introduction of the telescope, it allowed for advancement within the field of astronomy. He was able to see that there were in fact other planets within our solar system. This new discovery shocked the field. It disproved the theory that Earth was geocentric and forced scientists to change the way in which they viewed the world. This in turn allowed for new developments in other fields of science as well since it built on the notion of critical thinking. Scientists were now forced to believe and analyze the facts directly in front of them. This was a shift away from previously disregarding the facts and instead, thinking in a more moralistic manner; previously, scientists focused more on the societal convictions that were set by previous generations. Examples of this include systemic racism and prejudice due to race and social class. The Scientific Revolution was a key component of the advancement of the field of science as a whole.
There were many key inventions that were developed during the Scientific Revolution. One creation during the Scientific Revolution was the Compound Microscope. With the invention of the microscope, it allowed for scientists to study many small microscopic elements. For example, diseases and bacteria could now be analyzed and studied under a microscope. The microscope also contributed to the creation of many vaccines. Advancements within the field of medicine were made as well. Another invention was the thermometer. The thermometer allowed for one to view temperature. With the introduction of the thermometer, scientists were able to perform more advanced experiments. The thermometer allowed for advancements within almost every field of science. It also allowed for advancements in simple tasks such as cooking. Moreover, the Barometer was another invention that stemmed from the Scientific Revolution. It allowed individuals to measure the pressure of the air. With this new creation, patterns of weather were predictable. The Scientific Revolution was an extremely beneficial moment of history as it saw the development of many new inventions.
The Scientific Revolution was a precursor for the Industrial Revolution in Britain. With the development of the field of Mathematics and Physics, new inventions were created. Some of these inventions included the machines that allowed for mass production in factories. With machines being able to mass produce goods, it also led to population growth in new areas. Food was also now able to be produced more efficiently and cheaper, thus improving the quality of life for many. The Scientific Revolution was a key moment in history that drastically benefitted society as a whole. It not only benefited the field of science but had much larger implications for society as a whole. The way in which humans interacted with one another would be altered as well. Certainly, the Scientific Revolution changed the way in which humans viewed the world and its impacts are still being seen in modern day times.
