What we did

  • Molly went on the Lost Valley Ski Trip, it was incredible!
    • Molly also went to Quarry Road nordic skiing and had a great time.
  • Taryn walked to campus from downtown; the paths were slushy even though it is quite nice out!
  • Aiden has been walking around campus and enjoying it.
  • Bentley played frisbee outside!
  • Grace went to Sugarloaf yesterday, but the lifts were all on wind hold.
  • Annie and Alice also went to Lost Valley and saw each other and Molly.
  • Jack and Joseph are still on their trip at Mount Abraham, they will be back soon.

What are we gonna do!

    • Harvard Outing Club (HOC) is hosting an event about women in the outdoors from 8-9 pm on Monday night.
    • Night of 1.2K glowsticks, we are hoping to host something soon since night of 1K glowsticks was so much fun!

What we done did

  • Cheshta and I (Molly) went for a lovely little walk to the head of the falls, it was nice and sunny and a bit icy and we learned some things about the history of head of the falls
  • Lacey wrote about attending nature in JanPlan instead of going outside. 
    • Something to think about, trampled paths mean that lots of people are getting outside, yay!
  • Taryn tried to go skating, but Johnson pond was covered in snow and her skates didn’t fit her.
  • Margaret went for an arb walk and saw lots of dogs and slid on the crusty snow!
    • Trouncing through the crust can be really fun!
  • Alice went for a lovely run outside this afternoon and she even said it was warm!
  • Bentley and Jack went for a walk along the Messalonskee stream trail!
  • Aidan walked on a trail near foss and had lots of fun in the snow.
  • Kayla has gone on a couple walks in the arb this week, and she got a little wet in a frozen stream.
    • Her roommates saw an owl, so keep your eyes peeled.

What we gonna do

  • Lacey wants to go to the ocean and see the snow and the ocean, and maybe take an icy dip.
    • Taryn is excited about leading this trip
  • Caroline wants to take a trip down to Quarry Road for nordic skiing.
  • Bentley would be open to a Friday afternoon French mountain or Mt. Phillip!
  • Jack is interested in leading a trip to Mount Abraham!

This week

  • Winter trip leading training will be with Ryan and Taryn on Wednesday at 5 pm, it should be about an hour and a half.

Bigelow Buddies:

Trips: The leader training trip is coming up in March! It will be two days and you will learn a lot and have a lot of fun! There will be shadow opportunities for the LTT and for future trips.

Gear: We are gearing up for gear rentals, they started tonight. Maybe we will get some gear clinics up and running this spring, if you have any specific interest let us know!

Events: Upcoming speaker series is in the works, keep your eyes out for more information! 

DEI: We will try and find some other clubs to work with, and Lacey is in discussion with Mutual Aid about a collaboration.

Sugaring: This is coming up very soon, keep your eyes peeled.

Cabin: The Cabin is closed!

November Meeting

What we done did:

  • Lacey went on a fun little adventure on Friday with Taryn and a lot of people from the Bridge. They made terrariums with dirt and mushrooms from collected items on Runnals Hill.
  • James climbed Mt. Abraham after trying the weekend before, it was winter on the top!
  • Bentley played in a frisbee scrimmage, and the full team was there (wearing masks).
  • Molly went for a run this afternoon, and it was quite pleasant. 
  • Lots of people went to the fun run and Taryn was there tabling and selling shirts for mutual aid.

 

What we gonna do:

  • Taryn was talking to Aidan because she needs a co-lead, so keep your eye peeled for potential trips!
  • Photography club collaboration?
  • SHOC destressing arb walk.
  • New meeting time, we will send out a poll! (Potentially Thursday evening)

What we done did:

  • Lacey went to Hill house with her woody plants class and pulled out lots of invasive species!
  • Alexis and Joseph did French on Friday and made ramen with some ASA (Asian Student Association) friends.
  • Molly went for a run and saw the sunset!
  • Grace went to goat yoga (at a farm near portland, ME)
  • Jack brought some wood to the COC cabin!

  • Take the dock out at the COC cabin (the last weekend before we go home, more information to come out soon).

What we done did:

  • Bentley and his roommates played paintball on Runnals today!
  • Taryn went for a walk to the two cent bridge and looked at the Kennebec River.
  • Megan and her roommate went to Saddleback and Burnt Mountain and saw a bunch of wind turbines.
  • Taryn went to Old Speck on Monday of fall break and went up the fire tower and met some more aggressive grey jays.
  • Lacey and Abby led a scavenger hunt on Monday of fall break, but the path had been disrupted in the arb so they had to make some adjustments.
    • They had 6 groups join them!
  • Grace led a trip to Saddleback and hiked 15 miles, it was soooo fun!
    • Blood and Sweat but no tears
  • Bentley led a trip to Beech Hill preserve, it was a lovely preserve that looks out over Camden and Penobscot bay

  • Taryn and Alexis went to Moxie Falls on Tuesday, it was a great day.
  • Megan went to Ragged Mountain over fall break and it rained the whole time, so they couldn’t go out on the breakwater, but they had lots of fun!

  • Taryn would like to do a french mountain trip this weekend!
  • Lots of collaboration trips will be coming up, so check the weekly emails!
    • This saturday there is a trip going out with ASA!

fall break meeting!

What we done did:

  • Lacey went on an adventure with a group of 10 people from the swim team and they went to THE Mountain and she went apple picking.
  • Bentley went up Mt. Blue and only got lost on the road a couple times and did a corn maze!
  • Taryn went to the beach and there was a single seal, dogs and horses!
  • Abby partook in the casting clinic and there were lots of people and she learned to cast the fishing pole! Abby also bopped around Acadia and saw Jordan Pond!
  • Molly went to Popham and French and Enterprise.
  • Izzy went fly fishing this morning and it was so fun!
  • Jack went on a hike yesterday with Bentley and Mt. BLue and today he went on a hike with Ming at Mt Megunticook.

 

What we gonna do:

  • Relax, we had a big weekend.

Meeting #2 in person!

What we done did:

  • Lacey (and Abby) went for an adventure in the arb to plot out a scavenger hunt for fall break! 
  • Taryn and Molly and Grace (and Abby and Cheshta) went to Baxter State Park and went to the Brother’s loop. It was a beautiful mossy trail through a cloud. It was a magical time!
  • Bentley went apple picking with his roommates and got a half bushel (72 apples)! 
  • Jack led a trip to Jackson Mountain, it was fun, the perfect temperature!

 

What we gonna do:

  • FALL BREAK TRIPS!
    • The lottery closes tonight at midnight.
    • If you are a driver, please let us know!
  • There will be a meeting next Sunday, please come you will not have anything on Monday, so this is a great opportunity to come see what our meetings look like!

Our First In-Person Meeting!

What we done did:

  • Lacey was unsuccessful in doing work so she went on a really long walk in the upper arb and ran into a person from Delta ambulance, she also saw a bird attack a chipmunk, on campus!
  • Taryn went on a hike to the Bigelows and it was beautiful, and they had grey jays come really close to them and landed on someone’s tupperware.
  • PSA: Margaret did a woody plants TA session and found some really delicious grapes behind the admissions building (but pay attention to the poison ivy)
  • Lindsey went on a sunrise hike, went for a couple runs, and she also went to the woodsmen bonfire and met some new friends
  • Abby went for a run the other day and scared a bird into a window, but it flew away!
  • Bentley planned on hiking Morse Mountain, but the parking lot was full so he went to Popham Beach
  • Taryn went canoeing for her capstone and it was really windy on Tuesday!
  • Lacey went to a bog on Tuesday for the first time. She had wanted to go to a bog since before coming to colby, but she finally got to go to one! They also got to take their shoes off and walk through the woods.

 

What we gonna do:

  • Margaret wants to go to Moxie Falls over fall break, Taryn wants to go too! (Look for the sign ups the week before fall break)
  • Jack wants to lead a trip this weekend, who wants to lead one with him?
  • Lacey wants to go to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, maybe a painting or journaling trip!
