BI164 – Evolution and Diversity

Welcome! Evolution is a pervasive process that shapes biological diversity. We will take a step away from the cellular level processes you focused on previously (BI163) and learn about biological life from the big picture perspective of individual organisms, populations, species, and more.

Knowledge Goals

Students will understand major concepts regarding:

  • Build a foundational knowledge of concepts regarding Heredity (how is underlying genetic variation transmitted across generations), Evolution (how is phenotypic variation affected by evolutionary processes), and Organismal diversity (what key phenotypic traits arose across the tree of life as a result of evolutionary processes, etc.)
  • Practice the application of these concepts using the scientific method in order to understand biological phenomena
