On July 13th, 2021, Colby hosted its fourth Allen Island Explore Trip for the summer of 2021. With 11 of the 14 people being from the same reserach group, it worked as a great bonding experiance for the research assistants to get to know eachother outside of the lab.
With the sun coming out unexpectedly, it turned out to be a beautiful day, allowing us to take advantage of using Professor King’s boat, the Seabattical, to go and see the puffins. Another treat was being able to watch Dr. David Emerson from Bigelow and Professor Whitney King talk about the research potential on the island, as there are few moments in my life where I anticipate seeing leaders in their respective fields come together and talk about why certain things are the way they are and potential future research projects. As a student, it made me realize how much I didn’t know and made me excited for my next 3 years of education at Colby.
