This interview was with Joon Gyu-Paik, a Korean-American who is 39 years old and lives in New York City. Joon reveals that he was born in Bloomington Indiana, moved to and was raised in Seoul, and then was sent back to the United States on his own. this interview covers topics about his immigration, food, racism, and interracial marriage.
I already knew this interviewee because he is my uncle. I reached out to him to see if he would be willing to be interviewed. The interview was conducted over Zoom by Tyreese Ling, a first year student in Colby college interested in Korean culture and experiences.
Joon-Gyu Paik was born in Bloomington, Indiana. At age 7, he moved to Seoul, South Korea and attended public school there until the age of 14, when his family sent him back to the United States for better educational opportunities. He is currently 39 years old and living in New York, New York as an English teacher. His family lives in Korea, but he still connects with them through video calls, texts, and occasional visits to Korea.
