Food for Thought

In 2014, the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville Maine received a donation from the Beaupre family to help build a biodome. The biodome is named in honor of Mary Nash Beaupre, who had a love for both children and gardening. The biodome program allows kids in the AYC afterschool program to learn to garden and grow food that will be used at the Youth Center. The program aims to empower local kids by teaching them to grow their own food, and giving them an opportunity to spend time in nature. Mike Owens is the coordinator of this program. He has created a fun, safe environment where the kids love to come and play in the dirt and plant vegetables. He is passionate about local food and is passing on his passion for gardening to the young kids in the after school program. After school program members Avery, Zachary, Delilah, Chloe, Amara and Carter are all featured in our film. Much of the filming was done by Zachary and Avery.
