Colby’s Maine Jewish History Project fosters research on Jewish life in Maine, sharing the results of this research with current and former Mainers and also with students and scholars of American Jewish history. David Freidenreich, Pulver Family Associate Professor of Jewish Studies at Colby College, directs the project and edits this website. The project is a collaboration of Colby’s Jewish Studies Program and Special Collections.
This site presents work by Colby students and other historians, focusing particular attention on Jewish life in the Kennebec Valley and at Colby College. Documenting Maine Jewry (www.mainejews.org) provides access to valuable historical data on Jews in Maine, including some of the material that underlies the works of history found on this site.
