Funny Sabbath—unnatural +
unpleasant. This Evening Chamberlain
sits in my tent + I talk to him
about “my chum”, read bits of
his finest letters, play to him on
the Piano, + hear the young Rebels
story. The drummers however must
stop in the guard house tonight.
The Sergt. is right.

 

28th.
Sergt. Armstrong sends me
present of “Speers” + fine letter.
Received Excellent testimonial
from the Adjutant General or
