The Forger tells the dramatic story of a fictional heist during which a team replaces a Monet in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts with a copy. John Travolta plays a fictionalized forger caught up in a theft ring, and the film incorporates themes of familial ties competing with the thrill of working with a crime ring, and the fulfillment the main character finds in each. As the three main characters struggle with limitations of age, illness, and conscience, the purpose driving the forgery intensifies. The movie exaggerates and glorifies the crime scene, focusing more on getting the bad guy than considering the act of forgery, but demonstrates a very engaging plot that delivers as a loose overview of how forgery is depicted in a feature film.
