Reinhold Vasters was a German goldsmith famous for his forgeries of Renaissance objects, including jewelry and vessels. He was driven by the need to make money to support his family after his wife’s death. However, Vasters’ forgeries did not come to light until years after his death when the Victoria and Albert Museum in London began an investigation. It has become apparent that 45 of his objects were found in the Metropolitan Museum for Art in New York City. To learn more, click here.
