Robinson’s biography in the 1918 Colby Oracle
Hugh L. Robinson graduated from Colby Magna Cum Laude as a distinguished and accomplished member of the class of 1918. He was a member of Delta Kappa and Druids, served as the manager for the tennis team, the Editor-in-chief for the Colby Oracle and Commencement Manager. He was a member of the “Robinson Tribe”, a collection of students named Robinson. He achieved academic distinction at Colby, being part of the honor roll sophomore year and was specially recognized for receiving an A in six courses.
Robinson expressed commitment to his goal of becoming a missionary during his years at Colby. He applied to the Student Volunteer Movement in 1915 and once more after he graduated. He cited alternative plans as attending Harvard Medical School or enlisting in the Canadian Army to fight in World War One. He ultimately continued his studies after Colby at Harvard Medical School. He worked as a cleaner during his time at Colby, saving money for his later education.
