After more than twenty years serving as a missionary and educator at the Abigail Hart Scott Memorial School in China, Abbie Gertrude Sanderson demonstrated extraordinary resilience and dedication by returning to missionary work in Japan only two years after enduring twenty one months of imprisonment under the Chinese Communist regime. Rather than retiring after the physical and emotional strain of her imprisonment and forced departure from China, Sanderson accepted a new assignment at Shokei Gakuin in Sendai, where she continued her educational and religious work with the same commitment that had defined her earlier career. Her decision to resume missionary service after such upheaval reflected not only deep personal faith, but also an unwavering devotion to the mission of Christian education and the students she served throughout her life.
