Interviewee Biography<\/strong>

Patrick Dunlea is a Junior at Colby studying Government and Economics. Born in Seoul, South Korea,
Patrick was adopted at just a few months old and spent his childhood in Chicago, Illinois. After middle
school, Patrick decided to study at The Hotchkiss School, a preparatory academy where he played
lacrosse, which ultimately led to his decision to continue his education in Waterville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Synopsis<\/strong>

In this interview, Patrick and I explored how identity has played a role throughout his life, with a specific focus on its relevance to the sport of lacrosse. Patrick elaborated on how being raised in a transracial adoptive family made him feel as though many of his experiences as an Asian-American were distinctive. Moreover, he delved into the impact of having a supportive family atmosphere. As such this interview covers topics such as trans-racial adoption, racism, exclusion, identity formation, culture, and community. The interview was conducted via Zoom, as Patrick is currently studying abroad in Barcelona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conversation was led by Noah Brooks, a senior Government major with a keen interest in international politics and race through sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
