Synopsis:

This interview is with Jacob Ju who is a senior at Colby College at the time of this interview. Jacob is a second generation Korean American who has lived and grown up in California since birth. He is the only son of his parents, both first generation Korean American with a paternal grandmother who fled from North Korea to South Korea as an infant and later immigrated to California around 1990. In this interview Jacob talks about his experience growing up surrounded by Korea within his neighborhood in California and what nuance that added to his relationship with Korea and his Korean-American identity. He also touches on how

Biography

Jacob Ju was born in 2003 in Los Angeles, California. Jacob is a second-generation Korean American who has lived and grown up in California since birth. In California, his family lived in Los Angeles for the early stages of his life before briefly moving to Torrance for about two years and finally settling in their current residence of Orange County. Jacob’s family consists of himself, his younger sister, and his parents—both first-generation Korean Americans—as well as his paternal grandmother who fled from North Korea to South Korea as an infant and later immigrated to California around 1990. At the time of this interview, Jacob was a senior at Colby College majoring in Economics with a passion for venture capital and early-stage startups.
