Interview synopsis:
This is an interview with Eunho Lee, a sophmore Colby College. Eunho was born in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to Brookline, Massachusetts when he was just three years old. In this interview Eunho shares his thoughts, opinions and experiences regarding his Korean heritage and immigration to the United States. He recalls stories of his father and mother’s experience growing up in Korea and the influences on their decision to immigrate. Among other subjects, Eunho touches on unification and education systems, providing valuable insight into current and changing perspectives about the Koreas, U.S., and their intricate relationship. Eunho also talks about aspects of play incorporated within his heritage, and how he has balanced both his Korean and American Identity. I met Eunho through a mutual friend as a first year at Colby College, and we immediately bonded over our mutual interest in history. This interview was conducted in person in a classroom at Colby College. The interview was conducted by Declan McNamara, a 2nd year History major at Colby College interested in modern history and diasporic events.

Interviewee Biography: Eunho Lee is a nineteen year old sophomore at Colby College, he currently lives in Weston Massachusetts with his father, mother and two older sisters. Eunho immigrated to the U.S. from Korea when he was three years old. After a short period living in Brookline Massachusetts, his family moved to Weston where he attended the local public high school. His parents work as dentists, and his sisters both attend Boston College. Eunho has sustained his connection to Korea and Korean identity through his childhood attending Korean school and church, as well as continuing to speak the Korean language at home. Eunho still keeps in contact with his extended family in Korea through social media/skype and looks forward to visiting again at some point in the future.
