Interviewer : Margot Supple
Interviewee : Anire Kim Amoda
Anire Kim Amoda is a 21 year old student at Oberlin College originally from Brooklyn, NY
who is Korean, Nigerian, and French. Throughout the interview we discussed her connections to
Korean culture and cuisine and feelings of conflict around cultural identity growing up half
Korean in New York City. We also discussed generational differences, stories of migration, and
modern day cultural representations across the United States. This interview covered Korean
culture, mixed-race Korean identity, immigration histories from the Korean War, and
contemporary Korean cuisine and practices. This interviewee and I are friends from high school,
and we decided to conduct this interview over zoom since we were in separate locations. This
interview was conducted by Margot Supple, a fourth year Environmental Policy major at Colby
College who is interested in researching “culture” and/or cuisine as non-static, experiential, and
personal entities.
French and has lived in the United States her whole life. She is currently studying theater at
Oberlin college in Ohio.
