This interview is with Tegh Kholsa who is 21 years old and a junior at Colby College. Tegh’s major is East Asian studies and he studied abroad last fall in Seoul, Korea. Tegh discusses his interest and first exposure with KPOP and larger Korean culture and how this inspired him to study abroad in Korea. He also discusses his study abroad experience including the bar and club scene, university classes, cuisine, friendships, and his travels in Korea. This interview covers topics such as the continuing impact of American troops on Korea, biases towards Americans in Korea, having darker skin in Korea, Korean-only spaces, and Korea’s emphases on appearance. Additionally, Tegh shares several life lessons he learned from his experience.
I met Tegh two years when we took a horseback riding lesson together. I selected him for this interview based on our mutual participation in HI244A Modern Korea 1945-pres. The interview was recorded on my I phone in person in the AMS dorms.
My name is Laura Bogorad and I am a senior history major also at Colby College who is interested in modern culture in Korea and Hallyu.
