Requirements for Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regular attendance\u00a0is required.
\nRegular weekly blogging is required.
\nStarting on Sept. 19<\/strong>, and due within the week, students\u00a0will write a thoughtful 500-word essay\u00a0(not a summary) each week in response to the lecture or class event, then categorize it appropriately, and post it to the Origins<\/a> site. There are\u00a010 evening lectures, 1 museum trip, and 1 poster session. You will need at least 10 posts<\/strong> for course credit, one of which MUST<\/strong> be in response to the final Celebration of Research .<\/p>\n

Use the date of the event<\/strong> as the category. The final post is due Dec. 12. If you are unable to\u00a0attend one of the events, please ask Professor Fleming or Professor Rizzo if you can write about\u00a0another \u201cOrigins\u201d themed event.<\/p>\n

To post an essay:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Log in<\/a> to the Origins site.<\/p>\n

2. Click on the \u201c+New\u201d tab right above the Origins header and select \u201cPost\u201d from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

3. \u00a0That will bring you to the \u201cEdit Post\u201d page.<\/p>\n

4. \u00a0Type the\u00a0title<\/strong>\u00a0of your post in the blank space immediately under the \u201cEdit Post\u201d title.<\/p>\n

4. \u00a0Type your post in the text box, adding a MORE tag after the first several lines. You can use any of the formatting controls above the text box.<\/p>\n

5. IMPORTANT: \u00a0In the \u201cCategories\u201d box in the middle of the right-hand sidebar, select the date of the event you are posting about.<\/p>\n

6. In the \u201cTags\u201d box under \u201cCategories,\u201d add one or two words (separated by a comma and space) that describe your post\u2019s content and then click \u201cAdd.\u201d<\/p>\n

7. In the upper right-hand corner, click the blue \u201cPublish\u201d button.<\/p>\n

When it has been published, you can view your post by clicking the \u201cView post\u201d link above your post\u2019s title. You can also edit your post by clicking on the \u201cEdit Post\u201d link in the black box at the bottom of your post. \u00a0That will return you to the \u201cEdit Post\u201d page where you can edit as you wish. \u00a0Once you are done, click on the blue \u201cUpdate\u201d button at the far right of the screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

8. Take the time to read the posts of others and comment on them.<\/p>\n
