Isaac Asimov states an interesting perspective on technology through the quote from one of his books,  “the saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.” This aspect rings true because through technology some parts of our society are not positively improving. When examining cell phone and social media use, a fantastic advancement has been made allowing people across the globe to communicate in seconds and stay connected with each other. However, people are consumed with their phones by checking them constantly and therefore interacting with the people next to them less. Instead of talking to someone face to face, people are using their phones during meals and listening to music while walking the streets. Cell phone use is also causing more automobile accidents. This impressive technological advancement allows for the opportunity to connect with more people and access more information, but society as a whole is not becoming more wise through this advancement because people are losing sight of the people in there vascinity and creating accidents. Through science, vaccines have been created to save lives and technology has been invented so a surgery can be performed through a belly button. Also, even though vaccines have been created to prevent illness many people across the globe do not have access to these medical advancements. Society is not coming up with sustainable ways to allow people to receive these vaccines. Through science and technology, many people in society are money driven and focused choosing fields and areas of research that will result in boosting a person’s wealth. People in society want the best new thing whether it is a new phone or coding that makes the internet work faster.

Science and technology has always had a part in shaping society. In the past, when technology in transportation had not been created, people did not fly to Europe for vacation or even within the United States. Thus, inhibiting the first hand experience of other cultures. There were more societies than today because of the clear separation between the experiences of the people within each society. Looking back, war created massive advancements in technology and science. Opposing forces raced to created the more lethal weapon.

In the future, science and technology projects people living on the moon. This would create a new culture and society. Also, the creation of a vitamin or medicine that would make a person’s life span longer and cars that would drive themselves. These ideas of innovation in science and technology will change how societies operate and the people within them. Through the study of science, technology, and society, researchers can analyze why people behaved the way they did and project how they will in the future.
