She also sent a link for graduate school preparation:  <a href=\"https:\/\/cra.org\/cra-wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2022\/01\/Session-2-Application-Preparation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Preparing a Strong PhD Graduate Application<\/a>.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Topic of Discussion 1:<\/strong>  On <strong>Feb 21<\/strong>, we explored major issues in science today, and &#8220;race&#8221; came up as a major theme, with the start of lots of great discussion.  We&#8217;ll continue this theme for Feb 28 with a documentary, followed by blog posting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Blogging Assignment 1:<\/strong>&nbsp;From <strong>Feb 28 <\/strong>Documentary: Race: The Power of an Illusion:  <strong>By 7 PM next Monday March 7<\/strong>, create a post on our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/pulversciencescholars\/home\/pulver-science-blog\/\">blog<\/a>&nbsp;in response to the Race documentary and readings. Go to the PBS site&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/race\/000_General\/000_00-Home.htm\">Race: The Power of an Illusion<\/a><\/strong>, and click on the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/race\/000_About\/002_04-background.htm\">&nbsp;Background Readings<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;link. Click the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/race\/000_About\/002_04-background-01.htm\">Science<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;link. Select any <em>one<\/em> of the listed readings that interests you.&nbsp;<strong>Create a blog post<\/strong>&nbsp;summarizing the reading and some of the most interesting points (include the title of the reading). Select two other blog posts to comment on. Later, after next Monday, you will comment on others\u2019 blog posts. (<strong><em>see HOW TO ADD A BLOG POST below<\/em>)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>HOW TO ADD A BLOG POST<\/em><\/strong>: To do so, first <strong>accept the email invite<\/strong> for you to be an author.  Next, go to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/pulversciencescholars\/wp-admin\/\">Administrative link<\/a>&nbsp;(you\u2019ll need to log in), and on the left side near the top, you\u2019ll see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/pulversciencescholars\/wp-admin\/edit.php\">Posts<\/a>. Click on this to get to the list of blogs, where you\u2019ll find only one:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/pulversciencescholars\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=705&amp;action=edit\">Pulver Scholars Blog: Spring 2022<\/a>. This will take you to the place where you can add posts.  In the center panel, you&#8217;ll see <strong>Posts &#8211; Add New<\/strong>.  Click the <strong>Add New<\/strong> button.  In the new panel, Click on the&nbsp;<strong>+ symbol<\/strong>&nbsp;(right side of page) to add a&nbsp;<strong>block of text<\/strong>, and click the&nbsp;<strong>paragraph symbol<\/strong>&nbsp;to choose the type of block.  For example, you can create a block as a title, and another block for your text. Then begin typing at the cursor. Click the settings icon in the top right hand corner, choose the <strong>Page<\/strong> tab, and scroll down to <strong>Discussion<\/strong>. Select <strong>Allow comments<\/strong> from the drop down menu.
