{"id":43,"date":"2018-11-16T20:43:20","date_gmt":"2018-11-16T20:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/presence\/?page_id=43"},"modified":"2019-02-17T23:42:19","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T23:42:19","slug":"how-to-post","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/presence\/how-to-post\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Requirements for Students<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regular attendance is required.<br \/>\nRegular weekly blogging is required.<\/p>\n<p>Starting on 2\/11 students will write a thoughtful 500-word essay (not a summary) each week in response to the lecture and post it to the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/presence\/wp-admin\/\">Presence of the Past<\/a> site. There are 12 evening lectures, and you will need 10 posts for course credit. Use the date of the lecture as the category.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>To receive credit for your response blog, your blog must meet the word limit, include a title, and engage in specific ways with both the lecture under discussion and at least one comment made by another student, either in the post-lecture Q&amp;A or in another blog post.\u00a0 Your writing should avoid generalities and make use of standard, grammatical written English.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>If you are unable to attend one of the lectures, please ask your professor if you can write about another &#8220;Presence&#8221; themed event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To post an essay:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/presence\/wp-admin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Log in<\/a> to the Presence of the Past site.<\/p>\n<p>2. Click on the \u201c+New\u201d tab right above the Presence of the Past header and select \u201cPost\u201d from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n<p>3. That will bring you to the \u201cEdit Post\u201d page.<\/p>\n<p>4. Type the <strong>title<\/strong> of your post in the blank space immediately under the \u201cEdit Post\u201d title. Every post must have a descriptive title (i.e.\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong> &#8220;Blog Entry for Thomas Lecture&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>4. Type your post in the text box. You can use any of the formatting controls above the text box, including the &#8220;read more&#8221; tag, which you can insert after the first paragraph of your response to hide the rest of the entry behind a link. This will help you and your fellow students more easily navigate the website.<\/p>\n<p>5. In the \u201cCategories\u201d box in the middle of the right-hand sidebar, select the date of the event you are posting about.<\/p>\n<p>6. In the \u201cTags\u201d box under \u201cCategories,\u201d add one or two words (separated by a comma and space) that describe your post\u2019s content and then click \u201cAdd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>7. In the upper right-hand corner, click the blue \u201cPublish\u201d button.<\/p>\n<p>When it has been published, you can view your post by clicking the \u201cView post\u201d link above your post\u2019s title. You can also edit your post by clicking on the \u201cEdit Post\u201d link in the black box at the bottom of your post. That will return you to the \u201cEdit Post\u201d page where you can edit as you wish.
