Set in pre-revolutionary France, Scaramouche centers on Andre Louis Moreau, a young lawyer reared with every advantage in life, who vows revenge when his friend Philippe is killed a duel trying to right a wrong with the Marquis. After stirring up the people to violence, Andre is forced to hide out in a traveling theater troupe. He joins them as the dashing Scaramouche, a character not unlike his own: rash, bold, daring, but ready to escape at an opportune moment.
