{"id":1787,"date":"2018-11-19T18:44:48","date_gmt":"2018-11-19T23:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/outingclub\/?p=1787"},"modified":"2018-11-19T18:44:48","modified_gmt":"2018-11-19T23:44:48","slug":"11-18-the-giving-of-thanks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/outingclub\/2018\/11\/19\/11-18-the-giving-of-thanks\/","title":{"rendered":"11\/18 &#8211; the giving of thanks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"G1VCxe kno-fb-ctx\"><\/div>\n<h2>hello friends,<\/h2>\n<h2>as I am writing these words, there is but one day of class to go until the sweet, sweet respite of thanksgiving.\u00a0 this year, more than ever, it is a trial run for winter break.\u00a0 practice your snowpeople, your snow angels, your snowball tactics, and your sledding.\u00a0 fire up the woodstove.\u00a0 and hunker down for the month-plus of christmas music that is sure to barrage your eardrums the second that thanksgiving ends.<\/h2>\n<h2>yes, it is a magical time of year, and hey, you can always escape your family outside!<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what we done did<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">michael, on friday night, did something. \u00a0what was this thing? played pond somewhere. \u00a0i am hard of hearing. \u201cgiant trail of snow through dana\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">macey went to mt blue and also ascended mt blue and it was lovely powdery snow and it was a good time<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">joseph went on a tour of a maple sugaring place! it was real sweet<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">megan went up mt battie and there was six inches of snow and it was slippery and much fun <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">michael took out the dock before cocsgiving! \u00a0sweat tears and nudity!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">people talked about the outside at WFA! which sort of counts. \u00a0there was quite a bit of vomit. there was one hypothetical death<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">joseph went sledding!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">soren made snow! with snow making machines! at quarry road!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what we gon do<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bentley will get his co lead up burnt mountain! next weeeeeekend!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">henry and chris next weekend might go up saddleback! \u00a0exciting times! also a co-lead!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">megan wants to get in on this co leadery!<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">maybe a rival saddleback trip!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">kaitlin wants to go outside but statistically she probably won\u2019t<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">soren would desire ascending east baldpate mountain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">macey is being crushed by the guilt of not having led a trip yet this year<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">thanksgiving<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">have a good one!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">winter training<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it\u2019s monday!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it\u2019s a three hour (usually less) training led by Ryan Linehan in Diamond 122, it covers layering and hypothermia and it\u2019s 100% necessary to lead trips in the winter!<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it can also save your life maybe<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gear over break!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">it\u2019s open. \u00a0come and get it. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">poll<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">motor oil &#8211; 2<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">froth &#8211; 11<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DECISIVE.\u00a0 froth is better<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">committees<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sugaring<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">absent<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trips<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">there was WFA! everyone passed! \u00a0yay<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">there will probably be an LTT in jan plan <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gear<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">they have plenty of good ideas but not all that much action<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">my paraphrasing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">events<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trivia night!!
