{"id":1767,"date":"2018-09-17T13:07:45","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T17:07:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.colby.edu\/outingclub\/?p=1767"},"modified":"2018-09-17T13:07:45","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T17:07:45","slug":"9-16-were-actually-doing-things-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.colby.edu\/outingclub\/2018\/09\/17\/9-16-were-actually-doing-things-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"9\/16 &#8211; we&#8217;re actually doing things edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>hello my beautiful outdoors-goers!<\/h2>\n<h2>there is no denying that the year is underway and at some point, academic things will have to be done.\u00a0 however, there&#8217;s nothing wrong with shoving that paper to the back of your mind, throwing your backpack off of miller tower, and scuttling into the woods to scrape by on acorn flower and fungi.\u00a0 everyone needs that every so often.<\/h2>\n<h2>but what if you&#8217;re new to colby, maine, or the outdoors in general?\u00a0 to whom will you turn for the best in acorn mashing advice?\u00a0 well that&#8217;s where we come in.*\u00a0 we run trips that hit all aspects of acorn mashing, from the planning to the hiking to the foraging to the cooking.*\u00a0 we provide gear (for free!) to help you get the right\u00a0mash for even the trickiest of acorns.*\u00a0 and, we foster the community that fuels innovation across the acorn-mashing world!*<\/h2>\n<h2>what follows below is the distillation of a week&#8217;s worth of adventure, emotion, and vision.\u00a0 forge on, dear reader, and learn of our exploits!<\/h2>\n<h4>* we have no experience in mashing acorns.\u00a0 but we do like going outside.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stuff we done did<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dom on friday went fishing and then on saturday went to the beach and then hiked french mountain<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bentley got sunburnt playing frisbee<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">anna went to her own burrito night because she\u2019s abroad at bigelow<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grace and soren and some folks went to the northern end of baxter state park to hike the travelers and it was super lovely<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">michael played wiffleball with 15 friends! rip one of the wiffle balls<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">grace and grace and olivia hiked tumbledown and nature called<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">emma and ali and some other folks climbed the bible camp blueberry mountain and found some pilgrims too<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">megan and dru and teddy went to tumbledown, saw some dogs. there was blood and sweat and some partial nudity (spicy!)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">kaitlin and the ES capstone people had some mandatory bonding at the flagstaff hut<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what we gon do<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">max wants to lead a night hike up french mountain<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">so does soren and julia and like half the club apparently (RIVALS)<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>upon further examination soren is unable to so don&#8217;t count on that<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">kayaks 6:15 to 8:30 on tuesdays! they&#8217;re in the AC pool for anyone who wants to learn how to yak \/ roll a yak \/ have some fun in yaks<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">megan wants to go outside with max maybe up saddleback or sugarloaf<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fall break!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">proposals for trips are due this friday!! this friday!! like in five days!!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wowee that\u2019s soon, get on that ish<\/span><\/li>\n<li>k council \/ trips facilitation needs the leader&#8217;s names, qualifications, itinerary, itemized budget, etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">vehicles<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">attention leaders!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">we\u2019re posting a form on the coc website to fill out when you need to rent a car<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for weekend trips you&#8217;ll have til 7:00 (1900) on wednesday night to fill this bad boy out<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">katahdin<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aka k tahds aka mama k<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">we ran the lottery for spots<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">if you didn\u2019t get on, sorry, run again next year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">if you got on, congrats!
