We in Colby’s Off-Campus study office created this blog as a place to share stories, adventures, discoveries, thoughts relating to the off-campus study experience (especially, but not exclusively study abroad). It is intended as a forum where Colby students, faculty, staff, or parents can express and share the many aspects of the experience with others including other students, faculty, staff as well as friends, family and prospective students.
We invite you to contribute your stories, experiences, reflections, tips, and advice to the Colby community. Use this blog to capture the holistic experience of studying abroad: from deciding if or where to go, preparing for departure, learning a new language, the challenges and rewards of immersion, and thinking about and documenting how these experiences change us all.
Why blog?
There are many benefits of blogging!
- Help keep friends and family back home informed of your thoughts and adventures.
- Share your off-campus study experiences with other students, faculty, staff, or parents as well as friends, family and prospective students.
- Reflect upon and document your time abroad. Reflecting while writing on the experiences you are having can help you “process” them which is a very important part of the learning process. Writing can help you work through any difficult situations, and when you look back on old entries, you’ll be surprised at how far you’ve come and how much you’ve learned.
- Demonstrate your writing skills. You can use it later as a writing sample or include it in your career portfolio for job interviews or graduate school.
- Photos are a great way for your readers to get an inside look at your studies abroad, and could even help you boost your resume (really!).
