Howe began brewing in the early 1880s with former boarding house operator John Young. The two operated out of a location just down the street from where <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/mainebeer\/2018\/06\/04\/j-e-howe-and-sons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J. E. Howe and Sons<\/a> was located, at 206 Water Street, between Academy and Perley\u2019s Lane, in Hallowell.
