He built a brewhouse in the basement of the hotel, ca. 1851. The forty-one-year-old Walker owned $1200 in real estate. David Rumsey Historical Map Collection.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walker\u2019s eighteen-year-old son, also John, was listed as a \u201cbarkeeper\u201d at the hotel. Another Walker living in the hotel\u2014Tristram N., age 28\u2014was listed as a \u201chack driver\u201d and a porter; it\u2019s unclear if he was related to John, but <a href=\"http:\/\/web.colby.edu\/mainebeer\/2018\/07\/22\/history-tristram-walker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he too would try his hand at brewing in the following years<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s unclear if the brewery ever fully got off the ground: the hotel was out of business by late 1851.
