Though I most often work with black-and-white film, the color in these photographs is absolutely essential, yet not as important as the light that shines directly through the leaves and even through the camera&#8217;s lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is the true subject here. Light\u2014natural, stroboscopic (flash), or from artificial sources\u200b\u200b\u2014is the most critical ingredient in a photograph, a word derived from the Greek for \u201clight drawing.\u201d What I am most interested in \u201cdrawing\u201d in this case is the spectral light and its effects on the foliage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gary Green, Color Field Studies, archival pigment prints, 11 x 14 in. each, 2025.
