Sharon Yates

Artist’s Statement

All the paintings of cows involve the animals’ movements across and into the land. They deposit their waste and fertilize the pastures; they “mow” down the grasses as they feed, which allows for continued healthy growth. They often have access to branches and leaves, too, thus doing a form of pruning. Their hooves in the wet areas carve . . . on and on. I just think cows are truly amazing, leaving their marks and tracks.
