Maury Colton

Artist’s Statement

When Jackson Pollock was asked about the structure or touchstone of nature that informed his drip technique, he replied, “it’s in the trees.”

If asked about the touchstone to nature of my technique in this series of paintings, I would say, “it’s the granite coast of Maine . . . the fractures, clefts, strata, and textures that hint at a language and reveal the history of seismic change.”
